Customer sparks fierce debate over whether adults should be allowed to order food from kids’ menus at restaurants – so what do YOU think?

There is a heated debate going on on the Internet about whether or not adults are allowed to order dishes from the children’s menu when eating in a restaurant.

It started after social media star Jake Shane – who rose to TikTok’s comedy throne after interviewing a host of celebrities, including actor Glen Powell – shared a lighthearted conversation with popular sushi chain Sugarfish on the topic.

Jake begged the upscale restaurant, which has locations in Los Angeles and New York City, to order a serving of rice, but the 24-year-old was turned away and told the dish was for children only.

He posted a screenshot of the exchange on Instagram, which sparked a huge debate.

His followers filled the comments section with their views on whether adults should be able to eat the same meals as children.

The heated discussion began when Jake, who is good friends with online sensation Alix Earle, posted on his Instagram Story that he had heard the restaurant was only serving rice to “select customers.”

Then an employee responded on the restaurant’s social media with, “Hi Jake, we are allowing side dishes for kids (to eat in only) because some people don’t eat sushi yet, and we think feeding hungry kids is good for everyone’s dining experience. We look forward to seeing you soon.”

Jake immediately got into an argument with the sushi restaurant and said, “F**k are we arguing.”

The chain tried to get back on Jake’s good side by answering “never” and using blue and white hearts.

But Jake’s pleas for rice didn’t stop there.

The 24-year-old social media star noted that he felt “really uncomfortable” and asked if a poem could help them change their minds.

He then repeated his request, emphasizing that it was “very important” to him to get the rice.

The sushi empire then pulled a book from its page and responded with a poem: ‘Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar fish rice is only for children, not for you.’

Jake joked, “Give me the rice, please give it to me, is there a special spice in it, your face is anything but poker-like.”

When Sugarfish ignored his messages, he added: ‘You leave me on read, is that what you do? Is that what I said? This is too bad to be true.’

Sugarfish then sent one last message saying, “Don’t think. Just eat. Trust me.”

Jake wrapped up the conversation by saying, “Are you just going to mention the menu items now?”

He shared screenshots of the conversation on his account, captioning it: “It’s one side of rice.”

People on the internet responded en masse to the comments and expressed their shock at the event. Many people agreed with Jake and thought that adults should be able to order from the children’s menu too.

Someone said, “I’m pro-Jake on this argument. Adults should always be able to order from the kids menu.”

Someone else added: ‘Okay but it’s still ridiculous that they don’t give you rice.’

“I had tears in my eyes when I read this. Not all heroes wear capes… someone has to fight for us rice eaters,” said another.

One user wrote: ‘Strict rules on rice are madness.’

Another user added: ‘Why won’t they admit it? I’m dead.’

“I would never order from them again,” said someone else.

However, other social media users asked the TikTok star to back off and respect the restaurant’s rules.

Someone said, ‘I’m not going to lie, Sugarfish is iconic for this. What a soft disappointment.’

Someone else added: ‘To be honest, Sugarfish did eat something. I respect them for not giving in to an influencer.’

“Can you really not take no for an answer?” asked another user.

Someone else said, “Jake, they might have won this one.”

One user wrote: ‘Oh Jake…you’ll just have to make your own rice boo.’

Sugarfish, which is based on chef Nozawa’s sushi style, has previously addressed this issue in its website.

The site states: ‘Our rice is a very important part of the Sugarfish experience. We make our rice in very small batches and to deliver Nozawa’s signature hot rice.

‘We prepare a new batch of rice at least every 30 minutes and throw away any unused rice from the previous batch.

“If we allow all guests to order extra rice, it slows down the kitchen and makes other guests wait for their food.

“We allow children (only if they eat in) to have rice as a side dish because some children don’t eat sushi yet. We think feeding hungry children is a good thing for everyone’s dining experience.”
