Palace want a defender as interest in Marc Guehi is growing.

Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs eyeing the England international.

This week, Hodgson said the chairman, Steve Parish, and the sporting director, Dougie Freeman, had “a little work to do” to bring in signings.

He said, “We lost five senior players from last season and brought in one – Jefferson Lerma; he’s good and we’re happy to have him – but there’s still that gap of five senior players in the squad, two of whom were two of the real stars of the team.

“There is some work for the chairman and sporting director between now and the end of August because the team we put in today was our best team in our opinion at the moment but we haven’t got the strength behind that team we had last year .’
