Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is said to welcome a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

England international Phillips looks set to leave City this month after not making a single start in the Premier League all season.

Hodgson admits a permanent move for the 28-year-old is likely beyond Palace’s financial options, but he believes a temporary move could suit all parties, especially with Euro 2024 on the horizon.

“He’s a good player,” Hodgson said.

‘I would like to think that if Kalvin Phillips is available and an opportunity for the club there will be financial constraints again, who knows if the club thinks they can afford that, but when you talk about the I don’t think there is much there will be managers who won’t say, ‘Yes, we’ll be very happy to have him come to the club’.

‘As far as I’m concerned, it’s a name that exists. All we know, like most other clubs, is that there is a possibility that Manchester City will sell or loan him out.

“If they start selling it straight, I don’t think we’ll be in the market. If they’re going to borrow it, I think maybe we can raise our hands and push ourselves forward.

‘What we can of course offer is the opportunity to play regular football in the Premier League ahead of what will be a very important summer for England and for him.

‘We may not be the only club in that position, so ultimately a lot will have to happen before we know where Kalvin Phillips will end up if he goes anywhere.’

Palace travel to Everton for an FA Cup replay on Wednesday evening, following the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park a fortnight ago.

Hodgson confirmed that Michael Olise is still sidelined and will also miss the weekend trip to Arsenal.
