The news about the project was revealed by TVLine on Tuesday, and it was also reported that the show has officially received an order for a total of eight episodes.

The film, starring Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar as ruthless Manhattan high schoolers, has become a cult classic since its release nearly 25 years ago.

Representatives from both streaming services declined to comment.

Cruel Intentions is based on the 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.

The movie revolves around a pair of step-siblings who make a bet on someone’s ability to seduce one of their classmates.

In addition to the three protagonists, the film also starred artists such as Selma Blair and Joshua Jackson.

The film received mixed reviews from critics at the time of its original release, although it was a hit at the box office.

A pair of direct-to-video sequels, not featuring either cast member from the first film, were released in 2001 and 2004.

A jukebox musical based on the film debuted in 2015 and has since been reproduced several times.

A television pilot starring Gellar and serving as a sequel to the film was produced in 2016, though the project was ultimately not picked up by any network.
