  • Sharks star says she can live with him ‘forever’

NRL and Cronulla Sharks star Nicho Hynes has bought a stunning $2.17 million property in south Sydney where he hopes to live ‘forever’ with his mother Julie.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house not only provides luxury for Hynes, but also self-contained accommodation next to the pool for his mother.

Hynes, who was controversially suspended from the NSW squad for State of Origin II, bounced back with a starring role in the Sharks’ big win over the Bulldogs on Sunday.

His new property is a renovated 1950s home that was sold for auction through Rhiff and Michael Larkings at Location Real Estate Sales & Consulting.

The single-level home, set at 575 square feet, features a living room separated from the kitchen and dining space by a fireplace.

Both areas open onto an outdoor area complete with a pool and spa.

Hynes’ mother Julie will live in the self-contained accommodation on the property.

She was found guilty of supplying drugs in connection with a family friend’s heroin overdose at her home in 2021.

As part of her sentence, she must live in the granny flat in Cronulla for at least two years, although Nicho has indicated it is a permanent arrangement.

“She will be with me forever now,” the Cronulla Sharks player told Judge David Wilson at his mother’s hearing.

Outside court, he said he would like to put his mother’s troubled history behind him.

“I’m really happy that I’m past this now and can bring my mom home and take care of her, and put her in a community that takes care of me and will take care of her,” he said.

“I really look forward to her being the generous and loving person I know she is.”

Before moving into his new home, Hynes rented a garden apartment in the Sun Deck complex on Cronulla Beach for about $800 a week.

The apartment was recently listed for rent at $870 per week through Kayla Graham and Hollie Hayward of Highland Property.

Hynes’ commitment to the Cronulla Sharks was further cemented in April when he signed a contract extension until 2029, despite his contract not expiring until after the 2024 season.

“I never thought I would sign a long-term contract with the NRL, one that will hopefully improve my life and my family,” Hynes said of the contract extension.

“This whole town, whole community has welcomed me and I can never imagine putting on another sweater.

Club President Steve Mace praised Hynes’ dedication to the club and his seamless integration into the Cronulla and Sutherland Shire communities.

‘Nicho loves the club, fits in seamlessly with Cronulla and the Sutherland Shire and enjoys the lifestyle the area offers.’
