  • It then dragged the helpless animal down into the water as the rest of the herd scattered to safety

Brutal images show a merciless crocodile clamping its jaws down on the mouth of a zebra who had been trying to cross a watering hole in Kenya.

The predator lingered in the water before latching onto the zebra, causing its herd to scatter to safety. 

The unfortunate prey was then slowly dragged down into the water in the grisly images showing the power of nature.

Business manager Neal Cooper, 56, from Pretoria, South Africa, captured the stunning images in Mara Triangle, Kenya.

He was standing around 100ft away on a photosafari near the watering hole waiting for the perfect moment of drama.

Mr Cooper said: ‘It was a fantastic brutal nature sighting which I was lucky to have caught on camera.’
