Free Stuff Alert! Daggerheartthe upcoming high fantasy tabletop role-playing game from Critical Role’s publisher Darrington Press, will be available for free download from March 12 as part of a public open beta test.
Playtesters over the age of 18 are invited to “dive into the game, have fun, take it apart and share honest and open feedback” with the developers, led by designer Spenser Starke. Daggerheart is scheduled for a full, proper release in 2025. Starke says new versions of the game will be released throughout the development process, taking feedback into account.
Playtest packages can be downloaded from DriveThruRPG like the Daggerheart website from March 12. There will also be a digital playtest of a character creation tool Demiplaneplus some in-person play testing at some local game stores that come with the Darrington Press Guildif you are lucky enough to live near one of these.
On the day the beta comes out, the cast of Critical Role will be playing Daggerheart live from 7:00 PM PDT / 10:00 PM EDT on the crucial role Nervous twitch And YouTube channels. Helpful explainer videos will also be uploaded to YouTube.
Daggerheart is a classic fantasy RPG; its standout features include a dice rolling system with double 12-sided dice symbolizing ‘hope’ and ‘fear’, and a card-based system for defining and developing your character through their ancestors and community, as well as subclass and domain. After a demo at Gen Con, Polygon thought the game was cleverly designed for familiarity and accessibility Dungeons and Dragons players, but perhaps lacks some of its own personality.
