Criterion is having a 50% off sale on DVDs, 4K Blu-rays, and collections

Criterion hosts a big, one-day sale on all the movies it has in stock, ending Wednesday morning on the US East Coast. The Criterion Collection contains DVDs, Blu-rays and multi-disc collections of some of the most acclaimed and important films. If you’re a movie buff, or you’re close to someone who considers themselves a movie buff, this is an event you’ll probably want to visit.

The Criterion collection is huge and hundreds of movies are included in this deal. It would be a disservice to try to list all eligible movies. There are just too many good ones. So instead I pestered my Polygon colleagues to tell me which ones they recommend.

Remark: 4K UHD Blu-rays only work in compatible Blu-ray players. The Xbox Series XXbox One X and the PS5 can play these types of discs, although according to Wire cutter, they each have flaws that some standalone 4K UHD Blu-ray players don’t. Through their respective Blu-ray players, the Xbox Series X and One X cannot deliver Dolby Atmos sound, while the PS5 cannot deliver Dolby Atmos sound or Dolby Vision HDR.
