Another statue was created in honor of a footballer, and like many previous statues, it was vandalized by fans.
Waltham Forest Council agreed to plans to erect a statue of Walthamstow-born England captain Harry Kane in 2019, but five years later they may wish they hadn’t put in the effort.
Photos obtained by The Big Issue gave supporters a first look at the £7,200 tribute, but one described it as ‘so bad’ while another called it ‘the stuff of nightmares’ after the striker appeared to be pictured with a goatee. .
It’s not the reaction the creators were hoping for, but is Kane’s statue the worst thing we’ve ever seen?
Well, there’s plenty of competition, and Mailsport has looked at some truly awful ones from the past few years.

Mohammed Salah
Mo Salah is one of Liverpool’s best players and has scored 54 goals for Egypt, and this is how he gets paid back?
The statue was put on display at the World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh, in Salah’s home country of Egypt, and it’s hard to say what’s good about it.
It took Mai Abdel Allah a whole month to create, but how he spent his time is a mystery.
Salah has been given ridiculously skinny legs, and then a gigantic head, with the face looking more like musician Leo Sayers than Salah.
It’s probably best that Salah stays far away. He deserves better.
Mo Salah’s tribute is wildly out of proportion and the face looks more like Leo Sayers
Cristiano Ronaldo
This one is really a shocker.
Cristiano Ronaldo received this bust, placed outside the airport named after him in Madeira, Portugal, where he was born.
But the face is so obviously crooked and asymmetrical, and for some reason he’s grown a crazed smile and terrifying eyes.
Let’s not even talk about the teeth.
Rather than looking like Ronaldo, it drew comparisons to former Sunderland striker Niall Quinn and ex-Charlton defender Paul Konchesky. Hopefully they aren’t too offended by that.
If fans want a glimpse of Ronaldo and can’t meet the real person, don’t go to Madeira airport. His statue is truly devilish.

Diego Maradona
This one probably isn’t the worst, but it deserves to be thrown into the mix.
The proportions just don’t seem quite right, with Argentinian icon Diego Maradona given gigantic hands and an off-center facial expression.
And then there’s the shaggy head of hair that doesn’t do justice to the style Maradona had at his peak when he was the best player in the world in the mid-1980s.
This was unveiled in 2017 at the Sribhumi Sporting Club in Kolkata, India, three years before the World Cup winner sadly passed away at the age of 60.
Diego Maradona’s shaggy hair in this image, unveiled in Kolkata in 2017, did not do him justice
Michael Essien
This robotic attempt, intended to represent former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, would look more at home on the set of Terminator 3 than in Essien’s home country of Ghana.
The sharp, angular, human-like facial features look mechanical and lifeless rather than warm or sincere.
The proportions also look slightly off, like many on this list.
Essien was an excellent player, who also played for Real Madrid, but this is far from an excellent image.
Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien may not be too happy about this tribute in his home country
Lionel Messi
There are countless Lionel Messi statues scattered around the world. This has to be the worst of the bunch.
Located in Kolkata, India, it was installed just weeks before Messi led Argentina to victory at the 2022 World Cup.
Therefore, you could say that it turned out to be a good omen, but it probably had more to do with the fact that Messi was really good at football.
The image also doesn’t look like him at all as there is a blank facial expression and then an overly exaggerated quiff.
At least he’s done that party before, but that’s about the only accurate element of this poor effort.
This statue of Lionel Messi in India looks nothing like Argentina’s World Cup winner
Sergio Aguero
Sergio Aguero scored perhaps the most iconic goal in Premier League history on the final day of the 2011/2012 season to give Manchester City the title, and the celebration wasn’t bad either.
The club decided to recreate the image of Aguero twirling his shirt above his head in the shape of a statue, but it ended up looking more like Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.
The Germany international even joked about City’s try, which they proudly displayed just outside the Etihad Stadium.
Aguero was convinced to go along and unveil it and even smiled as he posed for a photo with the statue, but he certainly couldn’t have been really happy with the final product.

(Brazilian) Ronaldo
This statue of Ronaldo Nazario, also known as Brazilian Ronaldo or R9… it’s not great.
It reflects some of the man’s physical strength and stature as a player, but his stomach looks swollen.
While the pose is quite accurate, the face is truly baffling.
You also have to wonder where is the iconic tuft of hair he had during the final stages of the 2002 World Cup when he steered Brazil to victory.
In any case, the man himself (bottom right) seems happy with it.
