Cristiano Ronaldo has been given the go-ahead to build a pergola on the roof of his £6.5m Portuguese penthouse.
Ronaldo, 38, is replacing a rooftop gazebo that Lisbon City Council ordered him to tear down.
Council heads said it had to remove the controversial glass structure after they discovered it had been built without planning permission.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who left Manchester United under a cloud for Saudi side Al-Nassr, now has until July to put the new pergola in place.
Ronaldo’s sprawling penthouse in central Lisbon, next to the capital’s Parque Eduardo VII, became the most expensive property in the country’s history when he bought it in July 2018.

The 3,100-square-foot three-bedroom apartment where he had to dismantle his gazebo is said to include a spa, pool, gym, and three large bedrooms.
But his purchase has been overshadowed by the extraordinary dispute over the roundabout, which ended with the block’s architect, José Mateus, threatening legal action against the star.
Mateus was outraged that Ronaldo had built the gazebo on the roof, which meant that the building exceeded its maximum legal height.
In a searing outburst, Mateus accused Ronaldo of “scoring an own goal” and “disgracing his work.”
Even Cristiano’s sister, Elma Aveiro, jumped in line, blasting critics who “think they can tell us what to do in our own homes.” His other sister, the former singer Katia Aveiro, who now lives in Brazil, was furious: ‘Do we Portuguese deserve you?’
There has not yet been any official comment from Ronaldo or his representatives. Photos and video clips have been published in the Portuguese press showing how the last of the roundabout is removed.
The Lisbon City Council appeared to confirm in May that the roundabout had been built illegally without permission, as planning chiefs announced an investigation and invited Ronaldo and his advisers to submit submissions justifying what had happened.
