But now it has emerged that the 37-year-old was told by Ten Hag to proceed and refused his manager’s instructions before making his way to the exit.
Ten Hag said afterwards that he would ‘handle’ the situation on Thursday, and a gruff Ronaldo was seen driving into Carrington for confrontation talks.
The pair’s relationship is now at a breaking point, with Ronaldo desperate to leave and Ten Hag happy to let him go.
The problem will be to find a club that can afford to take Ronaldo in the January transfer window. Alternatively, he will have to wait until summer to continue.
