Cristiano Ronaldo made his 200th appearance for Portugal in Tuesday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland, with the star recognized for his outstanding performance.
Al-Nassr striker Ronaldo received a Guinness World Records certificate for having the most international caps for a male player.
Bader Al-Mutawa comes closest to Ronaldo’s score, who was beaten 196 times by Kuwait.
Fittingly, Ronaldo marked the occasion by scoring the winner in the 89th minute as Portugal won 1-0 against Iceland, who had been reduced to ten men following the sacking of Willum Thor Willumson.
Former Manchester United star Ronaldo made his senior debut for Portugal against Kazakhstan in August 2003.
He is also Portugal’s all-time record goalscorer with 123 goals.

Before the game against Iceland, Ronaldo, as reported by ESPNsaid: ‘Two hundred matches played prove the love I have for my country.
“It’s a hugely important milestone for me. It means a lot. [Two hundred] that’s a nice song [no men’s player] has. I am very proud because this is something I never thought I would achieve. And I keep setting records.’
At last year’s World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo became the first male player to score in five World Cups.
He also holds the record for most international hat-tricks with ten.
