Cristiano Ronaldo on course for unwanted first in his storied 21-season career after King Cup exit
Cristiano Ronaldo is on course for an unwanted first in his storied 21-season career after the Portuguese star sees his Al-Nassr side suffer a major shock in the King Cup of Champions semi-finals
- Al-Nassr crashed out of the King Cup of Champions on Monday night
- It was the third time this season that they failed in a cup competition
- The league title is now their last shot at silverware and they are second
Cristiano Ronaldo is on course for a career first – and it’s certainly one he won’t be happy about.
The Al-Nassr superstar was left furious when his side were knocked out of the King Cup of Champions in Saudi Arabia by Al-Wehda on Monday.
Having beaten their opponents 4-0 just two months ago – a match in which Ronaldo scored all four goals – the hosts were expected to storm into the final and set up a heavyweight duel against Al-Hilal.
But the newly promoted side had other ideas, and one goal was enough for them to secure a route to the final and knock Ronaldo’s Nassr out of the competition in the semi-finals.
It was Al-Nassr’s third time this season that they fell short in a cup competition, having lost in both the Riyadh Super Cup and Saudi Super Cup.

It means that Ronaldo now has only one chance left for a trophy in his debut campaign, namely the league title.
If he fails, it will be the first time in his career he has gone through consecutive seasons without claiming an award, having also finished his comeback campaign with United trophy-less.
And they have their work cut out for them, three points behind Al-Ittihad – having played a game more – with just six appearances remaining.
It would be the fifth trophyless season of his career, having had three at United and one at Real Madrid.
