Cristiano Ronaldo may NOT play for Portugal in their final group game against South Korea as boss Fernando Santos confirms striker is ’50/50′ after missing training

Portugal coach Fernando Santos has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo may not take part in the final group stage match of the 2022 World Cup against South Korea.

The 37-year-old was absent from training yesterday and instead trained alone in the gym, rather than with the rest of his team.

Boss Fernando Santos has since confirmed the attacker may be ineligible for selection after missing a training session.

Boss Fernando Santos said, “Let’s see. In principle, Ronaldo will start training soon. If you are in a position. I don’t even know if it’s 50/50 [the probability of being fit for the game]. If you train normally.

Cristiano Ronaldo was replaced in both games. There is a plan in case Cristiano cannot play. There is no single player that is guaranteed to play all the time. It almost wouldn’t work if we didn’t have a plan.’

Ronaldo wasn’t the only player to miss training, Porto midfielder Otavio and PSG duo Danilo Pereira and Nuno Mendes also missed, with the former busy with recovery work and the latter still recovering from their own injuries.

The former Manchester United star player had started both games at the World Cup so far but was substituted on both occasions.
