Fans were shocked after Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to have a replica of the World Cup in the background of a video on his new YouTube channel. But it turns out the trophy has a very good reason for being there.
In order to connect more closely with his fans around the world, the Portuguese superstar presented his latest project on the video platform and has already reached more than 15 million subscribers.
The channel will feature 19 videos, the most popular of which is titled: ‘Discover EVERYTHING about us. Who will win?’ The content will mainly focus on his life outside of the football pitch, with his wife Georgina Rodriguez and his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.
Although the set is dimly lit and there are few personal belongings, a shiny gold object has surprised fans, as it sits proudly on the former Real Madrid icon’s mantelpiece.
But it turns out that the trophy is not the World Cup, the one honour that has eluded Ronaldo in his illustrious career, but the remarkably similar Arab Club Champions Cup.

His new YouTube channel has set a world record by gaining over a million followers in less than 90 minutes after launch
Regardless, fans took to social media to express their amusement at the addition of the item, with some claiming the striker could “only dream” of owning one.
One user responded to a post depicting the trophy, which was in the shadows of the room: ‘Is that a replica of the World Cup?’
Another simply added, “No,” along with two crying emojis.
A third suggested that Ronaldo could get away with the trick.
“People who watch YouTube don’t know much about football and that’s why they think Ronaldo will win the World Cup,” they said.
A number of users mercilessly mocked the Portuguese legend for his decision to place the trophy in the background, with one saying: ‘Bro created his own world cup’.
Another wrote: ‘Bro, you can’t just dream about it.’
A few fans pointed out that the trophy was authentic, as Ronaldo had lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup this year, but they were in the minority.
One of them said: ‘They redesigned the trophy for him, making it more like the World Cup.’
The attacker’s project has already broken a world record: in less than 90 minutes after its launch, it already gained one million followers, making it the record for the most subscribers in an hour.
As Ronaldo approaches his 40th birthday in February, he has struggled at his current Saudi club Al-Nassr.
Fans have expressed their joy on social media over the addition of the item
Earlier reports from Mail Sport suggested that the Portuguese has been hurt by poor results and a lack of trophies, leading to visible frustration among his team-mates. Ronaldo refused to collect the Saudi Super Cup silver medal after his team’s 4-1 defeat to Al-Hilal on Saturday.
But with a lucrative £175million-a-year deal signed in January 2023, the striker appears to be enjoying his time off in Riyadh, showing fans what he gets up to outside of the world’s most popular sport.
Videos on his channel also show his love for other sports. Conversations often involve comparing sports and their stars, including Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, boxing or UFC, and NBA or NFL.
