Cristiano Ronaldo leaves stadium without collecting his silver medal after fuming at Al Nassr team-mates for ‘sleeping’ during their Saudi Super Cup final collapse against Al-Hilal

Cristiano Ronaldo left the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium on Saturday night without taking his silver medal with him after his Al Nassr team were defeated 4-1 in the final of the Saudi Super Cup.

The 39-year-old was hoping for his second trophy since moving to Saudi Arabia in January 2023, following last season’s Arab Club Champions Cup triumph.

Ronaldo scored his first goal of the season in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Al-Taawoun in the Super Cup semi-finals. He scored again just before half-time to give Al Nassr a 1-0 lead in Saturday’s final.

But Al-Hilal, who won the Saudi Pro League last season without losing a single match, hit back with four second-half goals, including two from former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Captain Ronaldo was clearly unimpressed as the goals kept coming.

Ronaldo angrily gestured to his teammates after Al-Hilal scored four goals in the second half

The former Real Madrid and Man United star stood in the centre circle, clasped his hands and gestured to his teammates that they had “been asleep”.

After the match, Al Nassr players received a medal for their second place in the four-team tournament.

However, Ronaldo had no desire to collect his and therefore left the stadium empty-handed.

Ronaldo’s time at Al Nassr has been a mixed season so far.

His scoring record is very impressive, he has now scored 66 goals in 72 games for the Riyadh club and he won the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot last season.

However, Al Nassr finished five points behind champions Al-Ittihad in Ronaldo’s first season – having topped the table before his arrival – and subsequently finished 14 points below Al-Hilal in the 2023-24 season.

Al Nassr begin their latest Saudi Pro League campaign on Thursday when they host Al-Raed.

Ronaldo and co. will also compete in the King Cup and the Champions League Elite this season.
