Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has put past rivalries to one side by taking to social media in an attempt to lure Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo to Marseille this summer.
Ronaldo has been linked with a host of European clubs as he targets a move away from Old Trafford in favour of Champions League football, with Ligue 1 side Marseille the latest club to be linked with the Portuguese superstar.
Cisse took to Twitter as news broke suggesting Marseille’s interest in Ronaldo, and posted a heartfelt plea to the United wantaway, saying: ‘Cristiano come my friend I will look after you’.

The Frenchman joined Marseille in 2006 after leaving Liverpool and has a clear soft-spot for both his former side and Ronaldo, with his plea to ‘look after’ the 37-year-old viewed as a last-ditch attempt to help bring the star striker to the club.
Ronaldo’s worldwide celebrity status means any move would bring with it a huge increase in sponsorship deals and television views with Marseille conducting studies into the financial impact the possible transfer could have on the club, as reported by Bild.
‘A study is being carried out to find out what Ronaldo could bring to the club financially,’ said former Marseille player Jean-Charles De Bono. ‘This was also done by PSG at Messi.’

‘Olympique decided to study the impact Ronaldo is having on sponsors around the world to bring them to Marseille.’
A move to France would see Ronaldo compete in a fifth European league having already starred in Portugal, La Liga, Serie A, and twice in the English Premier League, becoming one of only a handful of players to do so.
The stumbling block in any potential move could be Man United’s determination to keep Ronaldo at the club for another year with Reds boss Erik ten Hag previously insisting he isn’t for sale.
