Cristiano Ronaldo surprised the host at Euro 2024 by allowing Bruno Fernandes to take a free kick during Portugal’s quarter-final against France.

Ronaldo was criticised by fans during the round of 16 of the Portuguese league for his dominant free-kick taking, despite rarely getting near the goal.

The 39-year-old player particularly sparked anger on social media when he attempted to score from an almost impossible angle on the side against Slovenia.

Ronaldo conceded in the first half of the match between Portugal and France and decided to miss a free kick from the edge of the penalty area.

The attacker was in talks with Fernandes as the two considered the set-piece.

The cameraman seemed to be taken aback by this decision, while the presenter was mainly focused on Ronaldo’s preparations to take the free kick.

As the camera focused on Ronaldo’s face, he quickly panned back to position after Fernandes touched the ball.

The Portugal and Man United star’s effort eventually deflected harmlessly over the French goal.
