Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has brutally shut down talk of a potential reunion with Manchester United wantaway Cristiano Ronaldo, as the Portuguese superstar continues to struggle attracting offers from European giants.

Ronaldo has been keenly pursuing an exit from Old Trafford this summer, causing many to speculate whether he would once again take up arms with Los Blancos.

However, despite Ronaldo spending nine fruitful years in the Spanish capital, Bernabeu chief Perez laughed off any suggestion of a return.

Jokingly referring to his age on a video that went viral on Thursday, Perez said: ‘Sign Cristiano? Again? He’s 38 years old!’

The president was quizzed by fans whilst staying in a hotel in Helsinki on the night Real Madrid triumphed 2-0 in the Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Spanish giants have already signed Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco for £85million this summer as well as ex-Chelsea centre-half Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer.

Erik ten Hag suffered a disappointing start to his tenure as Manchester United manager, enduring a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on the opening Premier League weekend.

Faced with a glut of striker complications including Ronaldo’s transfer request saga and Anthony Martial’s hamstring injury, the Dutchman has been stretched thin for options in attack.

Manchester United’s wantaway came off the bench to help claw one back against Brighton on Sunday and may well be trusted from the start when Ten Hag’s troops travel to Brentford this weekend.
