Cringeworthy scenes as AFL legends try to roast Jonathan Brown over failed attempt to meet his idol Conor McGregor

Footy players love to toast their own football, but an attempt by former AFL superstars to take the mickey from Brisbane Lions legend Jonathan Brown has landed flat on its face.

Brown returned to Australia this week after a failed attempt to meet UFC superstar Conor McGregor ahead of his comeback fight against Michael Chandler on June 29.

It’s a fight that’s been 18 months in the making, but there are still doubts about whether it will happen, as Brown found out the hard way.

The three-time Brisbane Lions champion was sent to Dublin by Fox Sports last week to interview McGregor ahead of his return to the Octagon in Las Vegas and needless to say the big fella was excited.

Brown traveled to Ireland to meet Conor McGregor, but the meeting never took place

Brown had never been to Ireland before, so he was excited to have an exclusive chat with one of the world’s biggest sports stars.

It’s fair to say that things didn’t go according to plan.

Canceled flights and lost luggage were the problems in reaching Dublin and then McGregor went bankrupt, Brown canceled and failed to show up at his press conference the next day.

“The closest I got to him was pouring my own beers behind the tap with his title belt on my shoulder.” Brown said.

So his former AFL rivals and Fox Sports colleagues Garry Lyon, Nathan Buckley and four-time premiership winner Hawk Jordan Lewis decided to stitch him up.

During the broadcast of the Brisbane Lions versus Western Bulldogs clash, the panel criticized Brown for his lack of success in locking down McGregor for an interview.

“We sent the great man around the world and he was going to try to find his hero,” Lyon said.

‘You went looking for him, but it didn’t come across.

“I know you’re flat, so all three of us said, let’s bring that big guy up tonight.”

So the panel queued up the Lisa Stansfield hit All Around the World and started singing in chilling scenes.

“I’ve been all around the world and I, I, I, I can’t find my baby,” she sang.

Brown did his best to hide his embarrassment, but football fans didn’t hold back.

“I’m glad I missed that live, hair-raising stuff, guys,” one person posted.

‘Who would have thought this would be funny? Cringe,” said another.

“One of the coolest watches you’ll see this year,” another added.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions have breathed life into their inconsistent AFL campaign by recording an emphatic 43-point win against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Returning to the venue of their disappointing defeat to Hawthorn before the bye, the Lions hammered the Bulldogs down the middle to set the tone for the 17.12 (114) to 10.11 (71) victory on Friday evening.

“It was a good response and probably as good as we’ve played this year,” Lions coach Chris Fagan said.
