Criminologist: why you should never buy your kids monogrammed clothing or bags with their name on it

I’m a criminologist and this is the one “super fun” thing you should NEVER buy for your kids

  • Mama told them never to buy children’s clothes with their name on them
  • Strangers should never know children’s names
  • They can use it to lure them away

A mom has revealed the one thing parents should never buy for their kids to keep them safe.

Dannah Eve, who studied criminology and psychology, said moms and dads should avoid dressing their kids in personalized clothes or backpacks with their names on them.

She said that while the accessories are “super cute,” it could put kids in vulnerable situations with potential predators who would use their name to lure kids away.

Dannah said a stranger may use a child’s name to get their attention and convince them they know them or their parents.

Thousands of parents were both grateful and shocked by the potentially life-saving tip.

Dannah explained why monogrammed clothing and accessories are a no-go in a Tikok video but explained that it applies more to school-age children.

“If they’re little babies, this doesn’t really apply because you’re with them and they’re probably always in your arms, let alone not quite responding to their names yet,” she said.

“If your child is of school age and only walks to and from school or just goes to school, a backpack with his name on it or clothing with his name on it could unfortunately put him in a very dangerous situation.”

The criminologist said predators are “incredible” at convincing children to run away with them.

“Predators don’t come across as these monstrous people, they come across as really good people… giving them access to their name is something you never want to do,” she said.

“Let’s face it, as soon as someone says a child’s name and they turn around, that person now automatically has the upper hand.”

Dannah explained that the person will then have the ability to convince the child that they know them or their parents.

Many viewers applauded the street-smart advice while others were thankful for the “genius” safety tip.

“This never occurred to me, oh my god, thank you so much,” said one mother.

“Let’s face it, once someone says a kid’s name and they turn around, that person now automatically has the upper hand,” she said.

“I was about to buy a backpack with my daughter’s name on it because she asked me to. I’ll explain it to her now,’ another replied.

“I’m 32 now and my mom would never let me have personalized things as a kid for this reason, and I will do the same!” added a third.

Some moms and dads shared their own safety tips that they use to keep people from knowing their kids’ names.

“Or type in a random name and tell them not to talk to anyone using that name,” one viewer wrote.

“My baby has two names, whenever someone I don’t know or not close to me asks for the name, I give them the ‘safety name’, the one I don’t use,” explained another.

“Exactly and we don’t say my daughter’s name when we’re in public. It’s always a cute nickname like baby or princess. You NEVER know who’s listening!’ someone noticed.

‘The same goes for water bottles! I notice that many people overlook them,” a third warned.
