Criminal Minds star Zach Gilford shows signs of recovery after severe allergic reaction
Criminal Minds: Evolution star Zach Gilford was grocery shopping in Los Angeles with his seven-year-old daughter Zeppelin Adele Gilford last Friday, just four days after suffering a severe allergic reaction.
The Friday Night Lights alum, who turns 43 next month, appears to have made a miraculous recovery, as significant swelling around his eyes has disappeared.
Last Monday, Zach shocked his 72,000 Instagram followers by posting photos of what appeared to be angioedema, which can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis if the swelling blocks the airways.
“Soooo yesterday was fun,” Gilford wrote on his Instastories on Tuesday.
‘Good thing we packed @criminalminds [season 18 on December 12]. Thanks to all the nurses, doctors and staff at @huntingtonhospital for coaxing my face back to normal… still a little way to go.”
Fortunately for the Illinois-born actor — who did not disclose his allergy — angioedema typically resolves within 24 hours of taking antibiotics, antihistamines and corticosteroids.

This Sunday, Zach and his wife Kiele Sanchez will celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary after first meeting on the set of 2010 TV pilot Matadors.
The 47-year-old actress managed to score a recurring role as Sydney Volt, the wife of prolific serial killer Elias Volt, played by Gilford.
“It’s actually harder,” the Fall of the House of Usher actor shared We weekly last August from working with Kiele.
“It’s harder because I don’t want to hold a gun to my wife’s head… It just so happens that the nature of these scenes was pretty nasty. Honestly, all those scenes are so damned. I only speak for myself. Kiele can of course speak for himself, but it felt dirty [bringing those darker moments to life together].’
Zach even got the chance to direct the July 18 episode of Jeff Davis and Erica Messer’s police procedural entitled “North Star.”
“I only signed a one-year contract,” Gilford remembered.
“When they negotiated my contract, I said, ‘Can I direct an episode?’ So it worked. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve been on almost every show I’ve ever worked on, and it’s hard to get that spot, especially on something like this where there are only 10 of them. [episodes].
“But they are very supportive of the direction of the cast. Half of the episodes this season were directed by the cast. It was so much fun.’
The Northwestern University graduate also appeared in Taylor Swift’s 2011 music video for Ours, but he is probably best remembered for his role as teenage football player Matt Saracen in NBC drama Friday Night Lights, which aired for five seasons in the period 2006-2011.
