‘Damn, you were too pretty to rob’: Career criminal demands woman befriend him on Facebook as he robs her at gunpoint and later texts her to ask her out

  • Amber Beraun said she got her mail on May 8 when she was approached by a man who pulled a gun and demanded to enter her house
  • She said she gave the suspect, identified as Damien Boyce, the money from her car, after which he demanded that she befriend him on Facebook
  • Soon after, he messaged Beraun promising to refund the money and finally asking her to come and chill.

An armed robber allegedly forced his victim to befriend him on Facebook, where he later told her she was “too pretty to rob” and asked her out.

Amber Beraun said she was returning to her home in southeast Indianapolis around 4 a.m. on May 8 after a long day of work and was grabbing mail from her mailbox when she was approached by a man, later identified as Damien Boyce, who had a pulled out gun.

“He took it out of his pocket to show me what was going on — let me into your house,” she told WRTV. ‘I have not done that.’

Instead, she said, she gave him the money from her car, which was about $100.

But instead of fleeing with the money, Boyce reportedly asked Beraun if she had a boyfriend and demanded she contact him on social media — while still pointing a gun at her.

Damien Boyce is being held on $7,500 bond. He had previously been arrested and charged with a separate robbery on June 12, in which he allegedly shot two people and hit a third over the head with a brick after an argument

He would even have indicated which profile belonged to him, according to him WTHR.

“I thought maybe if I added him on Facebook he would leave, and he did,” Beraun said.

Soon after, however, Boyce began messaging her on Facebook, the Indianapolis Police Department said.

One of those messages read, “Look, you know I’m paying you back.” It’s a great way to meet someone, but you weres [sic] too beautiful to rob.’

Beraun then decided to reply, “I believe your man. I can see you’re sweet, times just got tough. I know that.’

The exchange apparently encouraged Boyce, who continued to message her on social media, even asking her to “chill out” at one point.

Beraun said the encounter left her shocked.

“He really tried to rob me of my own things, but he took away my sense of security from my own home,” she told the local news station.

“It makes me a little tense knowing that people are walking down the street looking for places to commit crimes,” Beraun continued. “It makes it a little different when you hear noises at night.”

Indianapolis police said Boyce had previously been arrested and charged with a separate robbery on June 12, in which he allegedly shot two people and hit a third over the head with a rock after an argument.

Boyce then allegedly barricaded himself in a building before a SWAT team arrived, then surrendered to authorities.

He was charged with burglary, illegal possession of weapons, criminal recklessness and battery.

He was also charged with the robbery of Beraun last Wednesday and is being held on $7,500 bond.
