Cricket world hit by tragedy as West Indies announce deaths of Clyde Butts and Joe Solomon on the same day

Cricket West Indies has sadly announced the deaths of legends Clyde Butts and Joe Solomon.

The deaths of both were confirmed on Friday evening with messages on Twitter.

The first read: 'sad news from Guyana. Clyde Butts, the former Guyana captain and West Indies off-spinner; and former Chairman of West Indies Selectors passed away this evening.

'We offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. May he rest in peace.'

Another tweet followed an hour later, saying: 'more sad news. Joe Solomon, the former Guyana and West Indies batsman, passed away today.

“He was famous for the run-out that led to the famous 1960 draw at the Gabba.

'We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. May he rest in peace.'

Solomon played 27 Test matches for the West Indies from 1958 to 1965, scoring 1,326 runs, mainly from Nos. 6 and 7 in the batting line-up.

Butts played seven Test matches for the West Indies between 1985 and 1988, taking 10 wickets.
