Afghanistan have captured the hearts and minds of cricket fans during their magical World Cup journey, and have continued to make friends along the way after a clip of youngster Rahmanullah Gurbaz went viral.
The underdogs’ journey came to an end on November 10 after they lost to South Africa by five wickets to finish sixth on the points table after mounting a serious challenge for a place in the semi-finals.
The Afghans have left an indelible mark on the competition and their legacy only surpasses their efforts on the cricket field, with star opener Gurbaz helping homeless people on the streets of Ahmedabad at 3am on Diwali evening.
Instead of taking the first flight back home, Gurbaz distributed cash to several homeless people sleeping on the streets in the middle of the night, without waking them.
Gurbaz plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and the franchise shared the video shot by RJ Love Shah, a TV personality, and the wicketkeeper was widely praised for his act of kindness.

A third added: ‘You have my heart gurboss.. Incredible player yes, but more importantly, incredible human being..’
On the field, Gurbaz did not have his best tournament, averaging 31.1 runs from his nine innings, good for two scores of over fifty.
