A ‘predatory’ former tennis instructor from New Jersey has been found guilty of sexually assaulting his 12-year-old student over the course of a year.
Terry Y. Kuo, 32, of Colts Neck, New Jersey, was found guilty of 14 counts, including two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.
“The conduct of this defendant, so thoroughly detailed by our prosecutors throughout the course of this trial, was almost unfathomably manipulative and predatory,” Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said in a statement.

Sentencing in the case is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1, at which time Kuo faces up to life in state prison.
Kuo was first arrested in November 2017 and has since been held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold Township.
Prosecutors began investigating the former tennis pro after one of his students alleged he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions from August 2016 to November 2017, officials said.
During the investigation, evidence of his sex crimes against the student was found on Kuo’s electronic devices.
The victim, now 19, testified that Kuo showered her with gifts, including expensive electronics, jewelry and designer clothes and accessories, while he sexually abused her.
Kuo was first arrested in November 2017 and has since been held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold Township.
This is the second trial Kuo has faced after the first ended in a mistrial when the defendant urinated in the courtroom during jury selection on February 8. Patch news reported.
“The conduct of this defendant, so thoroughly detailed by our prosecutors throughout the course of this trial, was almost unfathomably manipulative and predatory,” Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said in a statement.
Kuo’s attorney Joshua Nahum said his client had previously stated he would appeal a conviction.
A separate indictment was filed against the former coach in connection with a credit card fraud operation.
In late January 2019, following a two-year operation focused on rooting out fraud and identity theft, 16 individuals – including Kuo – were charged in ‘Operation Plastic Army’, the prosecutor’s office said.
The operation, which ran from November 2017 to January 2019, led to the dismantling of a criminal enterprise that defrauded more than a dozen financial institutions, the office said.
