Creator of Charli XCX’s famous ‘Apple dance’ speaks out after fan sparked fierce backlash for gatecrashing choreography

A Charli XCX fan has come under fire for her BRAT move during the singer’s New York concert. However, those close to the scene say it was all worked out in the remix.

Social media users were outraged after a video appeared to show Kelley Heyer, the choreographer behind the singer’s now-viral “Apple Dance,” being interrupted by an overexcited fan as she was about to perform the scene.

While Heyer thanked her fans for their support, she asked people to stop shaming the woman in the clip. She said that although they didn’t know each other, she has since reached out to her and apologized.

“Okay guys, I just want to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand – the girl that jumped in to do Apple with me, I didn’t know who she was. We found each other on socials, she was so apologetic that I told her it’s totally okay, I understand,” Heyer said in a recent TikTok video.

“The lights, the loud music and everything – she just got really excited. We worked it out in the remix. Don’t f**king dox her,” she instructed her fans.

Kelley Heyer, who created the infectious dance routine to Charli XCX’s Apple, was performing the famous TikTok song in New York on Monday when an overexcited man jumped into the audience

She then assured online warriors that her moment was not ruined and that she was still enjoying her time in the spotlight.

“It was such an amazing moment for me and Charli said those amazing, sweet words,” she enthused.

The dancer added: “I don’t want that girl’s experience on the SWEAT tour to be tarnished or soured by the comments you guys leave.”

Heyer, who rose to fame after the dance went viral on TikTok, said she appreciates people defending and supporting her, but that she also needs to show “a little grace” toward the woman.

“Please don’t dox her. Let’s soften the reaction a little bit,” she urged, adding that she takes “some responsibility for posting the video” because she didn’t realize what had happened.

“My partner took that video of me and then I was really excited, so I just uploaded it and I didn’t realize that you guys would focus on it so much,” Heyer explained. “It’s kind of my fault for unintentionally putting her in the social media spotlight.”

Heyer attended the New York leg of Charli and Troye Sivan’s SWEAT tour on Monday to check out the show, after being chosen as “the Apple Girl” — an audience member who gets the chance to perform her TikTok routine on the big screen.

Clips shared online showed the Apple dance creator performing the choreography from the pop star’s hit album BRAT.

Social media users immediately jumped to the dancer’s defense, for which she thanked them, but ultimately said it was not necessary.

While other people actively tried to stay out of her way, one woman saw it as an invitation to dance with her – much to the chagrin of people online.

“The girl’s excitement was heartwarming at first, but she really needed to step back and wait. Like knowing someone online doesn’t mean you can come into their personal space and touch their arm/back/anywhere on their body,” one user wrote.

They continued: ‘She clearly wanted to finish her dance and was filming. She didn’t want to be disturbed.’

“I’m so mad at that girl even though she was just having fun. You’re an icon,” said another.

“That must be your friend, otherwise I would have thrown my hands in the fight,” warned another.

Others found the criticism she received too harsh.

“Ah that girl was so excited, it would have been cute if she had been acknowledged like that,” someone wrote under the video.

‘You guys are making way too much of a fuss about that girl going with her. It would have been even cooler if they had danced together!!!’ agreed another.

“The spotlight is big enough to hold them both!”
