A ‘devastated’ tenant has been left desperate for answers after a strange orange object started growing inside her rented house.

The woman noticed the dark orange growth growing out of the corner of a window in her home.

The object — which appears to be filled with dust and dirt — appears to have a flame-colored surface that is bent inward.

An Australian tenant was ‘frightened’ after seeing a strange orange object (pictured) growing inside her rental home

Part of the dirty object is seen stretching out in front of the window.

The tenant in question, who was unable to identify the strange object, uploaded a photo to Facebook asking for answers.

She was treated to several responses from users who saw the funnier side of her scary dilemma.

‘It’s The Upside Down,’ one user said, referring to an alternate universe in Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, a land that harbors rock particles and alien species.

“That’s what I thought when I first saw him…but please not in my house,” the woman replied.

“I was going around cleaning all the windows and window sills and I came across this,” she said.

“I’ve never seen this before.”

While other users said they were creeped out by the unusual specimen, some said the object was a sign of mold building up inside the wooden materials.

“I had this recently, it means water has gotten in and the wood is basically rotting,” said one user.

“My whole window frame had to be replaced – the glass was almost falling out when the builder checked because you could push your finger right into the wood. It was so bad.’

The object is a type of fungus that could have formed inside the wood during the construction of the property.

Karl Coppen, special projects and operations manager at MouldMen, a company that specializes in removing mold from homes, said the mold had built up over time.

said Mr. Coppen Yahoo the mold-like substance may have developed due to moisture that may allow it to grow quickly.

“When we see these types of increases, it’s generally when there’s a good chance for moisture,” he said.

An expert says that the dark flame-colored object (photo) is a type of mold that may have formed due to moisture on the surface of wooden materials inside the house.

“The higher the humidity, the faster something like this can spread.”

Coppen said it is not known if the substance is toxic since there are over 100,000 different types of mold.

Many of them must be analyzed through laboratory tests to determine how harmful they are.

“There’s a lot of hype about black mold being particularly toxic, and some of the dark molds are more of a health risk,” Coppen said.

He said the fungus may have occurred due to the accumulation of water particles which had caused moisture to accumulate in a dry part of the house leading to the growth of the substance.

Mold affects about 70 to 80 percent of Australian homes.

Most homes are affected by mold which grows on wet surfaces when the humidity on a surface increases

Bacteria grow through tiny spores that are not visible to humans and usually form on a surface where there is moisture.

Airborne spores attach to moisture before it can grow on the moist surface, causing mold to accumulate.

People can avoid mold growth indoors by allowing a good amount of sunlight and fresh air into their homes.
