Five people injured after horror rollover on the Hume Highway

Three children and an adult have been airlifted to hospital after a horror crash that left eight people trapped in a van on the Hume Highway.

The van rolled down the highway between Sydney and Canberra, near Marulan, Tuesday around noon.

The male driver, believed to be in his 50s, and seven passengers were trapped for a short time before bystanders freed them, NSW police said.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for mandatory tests.

NSW Ambulance helicopters also responded to an adult and three children with serious injuries.

The crash has closed all southbound lanes of the Hume Highway, with a detour on Jerrara Road.

The police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident.
