Three people miraculously avoided being crushed to death after a construction crane collapsed at an intersection in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, destroying the roof of a car, but causing only minor injuries.
Surveillance videos from nearby stores captured the near-fatal accident in which a passer-by left his head stunned after the crane boom and falling debris completely missed him.
The aerial platform was lifting a load of rebar at the construction site of an 11-story building on the corner of Bedford Park Boulevard and Villa Avenue when the crane lift fell into the roadway at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The massive steel hydraulic elevator landed on a silver four-door sedan and stopped at a traffic light, crushing the roof and rocking the car back and forth.
A man with a small shopping bag passing at the time ran for cover when the large yellow traffic light crashed into the roadway, along with other metal fragments that just missed him.
A frantic scene then erupted as Good Samaritans and passersby surrounded the car and tried to free the passenger and driver.
The Emergency Medical Technicians with the FDNY arrived a short time later and took the 22-year-old driver and passenger to Saint Barnabas Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

The man with the bag crossed Bedford Park Boulevard after the accident and kept walking.
The New York City Fire Department has evacuated 29 construction workers from the project and the Department of Buildings has halted work on the building while investigating the accident.
“Our preliminary investigation determined that the MEWP was making a delivery, lifting a load of rebar from a trailer and onto the roof of the construction project, when the boom’s arm gave way and collapsed on the adjacent roadway,” Department of Buildings spokesman Andrew said. Rudansky.
After a more thorough inspection in the hours following the crash, city building inspectors found numerous safety violations and issued subpoenas for failing to secure the construction site, not having the construction elevator in the right place, failing to obtain electrical permits for temporary lighting and standpipe compressor used on site.
All State General Contractor Corp, and site safety manager Jesus Rojo-Garcia of Jesus First Safety Corp were subpoenaed for the violations.
The City of DOB has halted construction on the building until the issues on the property are resolved.
The project has previously been cited for construction violations.
In late August, Classic Construction Group of Bayside, Queens, received a subpoena for a shaky protective sidewalk shed and fined $2,400 from the New York City Department of Buildings. They have not paid the fine.
