Craig Revel Horwood reveals he’d still be married if his wife hadn’t had an affair

Craig Revel Horwood has revealed that he would still be married to a woman if his wife hadn’t cheated on him.

The television dance judge, who is engaged to horticulturist Jonathan Myring, confessed that he had imagined staying with his wife forever and having children before being heartbroken by her betrayal.

Craig married his wife Jane in 1990 when he was 25 and she was 30, at which time he identified as bisexual.

Speaking to Kaye Adams on her How to Be 60 podcast, he explained: “If that relationship had worked out, I could have seen a life where I would have married a woman and had kids, hands down.”

“It’s who you meet along the way and what changes it, it’s pretty extraordinary.”

However, the couple divorced in 1992 after just two years of marriage when Jane had an affair with a mutual friend.

While the couple still hit it off, Craig confessed: ‘I wish I’d had kids.

“The reason I got married the first time was for that specific reason, but that didn’t work out, because she fell in love with someone else and that’s why it ended.”

“But that would have been my chance and his chance and I think that’s why we bonded in love together in that way, that’s basically what we wanted, because we felt like our time was running out.” She was 30, I was 25 and we felt it would be better to move on.

Speaking about their relationship previously, Craig told The Daily Mail in 2020: ‘Time was ticking. She wanted to have kids and I thought, “Well, this is a really good opportunity.”

“I was both gay and straight, so being bisexual wasn’t a big deal for me or her.

“We were two people who loved each other, who came together and wanted to have children before it was too late. But then it ended in adultery. That was after two and a half years.

“When you find someone in bed with someone else and they say they’re in love with them, it slows them down.”

Three decades later, Craig and his ex-wife are still close friends, with Craig explaining, “She runs my website.” We go on vacation together. She has remarried and has a son. In the end she got everything she wanted.

Craig began dating Jonathan, who is 22 years his junior, in 2018, confirming their engagement in April 2020 after Jonathan surprised Craig by proposing during a trip to Tasmania in March.

Talking to OK! Magazine, Craig said: “It’s so comforting to know that you have someone who loves you and wants to spend the rest of their life with you,” he said. “I feel like I have someone watching my back and I have theirs.”

Reflecting on Jonathan’s proposal, the candid Strictly star admitted his partner got down on one knee while they plunged into a salt bath while on vacation in Australia.

‘I said, ‘Absolutely not!’ she teased herself. And then I was like, “Oh, okay, I’ve changed my mind.”

“I thought that was really sweet, actually, because Jonathan just said, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

‘It was absolutely perfect. Anyway, he would rather be in a champagne bubble bath than climb a mountain to a waterfall.

Speaking of his sexuality, Craig previously explained: ‘I was bisexual for a long time. I flitted a lot between men and women between the ages of 17 and 26. My wife Jane left me for another man. Then I fell in love with a guy. I have been gay ever since.

Asked if she would start a family with Jonathan, she said: ‘I don’t have any plans yet. I would definitely adopt because there are so many children who need a safe home.’
