Crafty New Yorkers host bizarre Thanksgiving dinner on the subway

New York City apartments aren’t known for their expansive space, so a group of friends took matters into their own hands in the most New York way possible.

The eager group who wanted to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together in the Big Apple took it outside: to the subway.

The festive scene was shared on TikTok by user Akriti, who captioned the clip: “When your New York apartment isn’t big enough to host a Thanksgiving dinner.”

“Only in New York?” she wrote on the video.

The short clip showed a subway car filled with five people sitting at a beautifully set table, complete with an orange tablecloth, candle and decorative pumpkin.

The table was laden with food as the guests ate and chatted.

A man sitting at the head of the folding table began carving the turkey, while fellow passengers around them looked unfazed.

Reactions to the video were mixed, with some disgusted by the idea of eating on public transport.

‘I can’t eat on the train. I feel like the air is polluted or water is getting on my food,” one user wrote.

“Wait, I NEED to know how you did this, but also… is it sanitary?” asked another.

“The one where they had Thanksgiving on the subway,” another joked, referring to Friends.

“My problem is y’all know they don’t share with the homeless who don’t actually have Thanksgiving or have to celebrate it on the train,” another criticized.

“Only transplants do stupid things like this for likes. This is selfish and inconvenient for commuters, especially disabled commuters,” another raged.

It’s not unusual for bizarre things to happen on the New York subway.

In September, a video making the rounds online showed live crabs escaping from a woman’s bag on a train, terrorizing the entire car.

It is not known when the video was first recorded, but it was filmed by Instagram user Ian O’Conner.

The clip showed a woman frantically pushing a paper bag into the middle of the train after it broke.

The bag contained live crabs and the suspected owner of the crabs briefly tried to put them back in the bag.

Meanwhile, the passengers around them made sure to stay away from the crabs.

Social media users were fascinated by what they could see, while shocked viewers watched as someone else tried to move the bag, which appeared to be broken.
