Ronaleen ‘Crocky’ Murphy is a diehard from North Queensland who has already spent over $22,000 to watch the team play this year – but jokes that the cost is fine because it’s only her child’s legacy that she spends.
A hardcore Cowboys fan since the club was founded in 1995, Murphy flies 1000km to Townsville from her outback home in Mount Isa for every home game.
Ms Murphy has been a hardcore North Queensland Cowboys fan since the club was founded in 1995 and flies 1000km to Townsville from her outback home in Mount Isa before every home game
Ms. Murphy says she has already spent more than $22,000 this year watching her team play
‘It is much [of money] — flights, accommodation, meals, our memberships. Oh, and my husband likes to have a beer at the games,” she told the… ABC.
“We’ve worked hard all our lives, so who cares? It’s just the legacy of the children.’
The football-mad Queenslander has also invested in a number of key good luck charms, including a blue watch, ring and her bejeweled Cowboys crotch.
“Some people have tried to buy it off me, but no price could ever take it away from me,” she said of the cross.
Mrs. Murphy prayed for a miracle as she watched the Cowboys play the Sharks—then Valentine Holmes kicked a 92nd-minute long-range field
The superfan runs a company in Mount Isa and has even designed the company’s uniform in blue and gold as a tribute to the team she loves.
Murphy says she prayed for a miracle when her side lost to Cronulla in this year’s qualifier.
“We were down in points, but I was praying with my Cowboys cross, which I hold every time they play,” she said.
“I just knew they had the guts and tenacity to come back and win that game.”
The Cowboys football fan will attend the match against Parramatta Eels on Friday and is so confident that her team will win that she has already booked flights and match tickets to the final
The Cowboys won 32-30 when Valentine Holmes scored a long range field goal in the 92nd minute after two extra periods – and Mrs. Murphy was overjoyed.
She has secured her ticket to the preliminary final at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, where her team will face the Parramatta Eels on Friday night – and she is so confident in the win that she has already booked flights and tickets to the grand final.
‘I’m going for the boys and my tickets will be refunded. So if they don’t come in? [to the grand final]they go back for someone else to enjoy.’
