The bizarre sight of a cow trapped on the roof of a petrol station has stunned locals and sparked an unusual rescue operation.

The fiberglass cow, believed stolen weeks earlier from a nearby primary school, was spotted hanging above the Vibe petrol station on Western Australia’s South Western Highway on Sunday.

The police and SES were called to the scene, but didn’t have the tools to get the bovine off the ground – nor do they know how it got there in the first place.

Calls were made for anyone who could move the plastic animal, as a small and confused crowd gathered at the gas station.

A resident offered to use his cherry picker to get him down.

The operation involved one man driving the picker while another tied the cow to the railing platform.

The cow was then lifted off the roof and lowered slowly the ground.

The cow, known as ‘Moosli’, was from a local primary school and had gone missing weeks before.

An onlooker claimed it was stolen from the school by thieves and placed on the roof.

“The cow was taken from the (school) garden by people who clearly don’t care about our children,” they said The Western Australian.

“And now she’s down, which is great, and she’s back, which is great.” She can go back to school and be painted again.’
