Coventry 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday: Kasey Palmer sends racism message to football chiefs as he scores opener in FA Cup win

Kasey Palmer used Coventry’s FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday to demand better from football chiefs in their battle to end racism.

The Sky Blues striker accused supporters of racist abuse when the sides met at Hillsborough in the Championship on January 20. A man was arrested and released on bail.

And after scoring the opener in his team’s 4-1 win, Palmer lifted his shirt to reveal a T-shirt with the message ‘Less talk and more action’.

Coventry’s comfortable victory means everyone but their own fans will oppose them in the fifth round, where they take on non-league side Maidstone.

Maidstone defeated Coventry’s Championship rivals Ipswich in the final round to set up this tie and captured the imagination of football fans across the country.

Callum O’Hare also scored twice to help Coventry to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday

But Coventry boss Mark Robins knows all about this competition. His goals in the 1990 edition helped Manchester United lift the trophy and are widely credited with saving Sir Alex Ferguson’s job. Now Robins will assess his chances of reaching the last eight.

After a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough, Robins’ men made the perfect start to the replay as Palmer sliced through the Owls’ defense before firing home.

The visitors quickly equalized through Bailey Cadamarteri and both teams missed numerous chances to take the lead during an entertaining first half.

Coventry will take on Non-League Maidstone United in the fifth round after victory

But while Coventry fielded a strong team, Wednesday boss Danny Rohl made nine changes and the home side scored three times in eleven minutes at the start of the second half.

Two smart finishes from Callum O’Hare gave them breathing space before Haji Wright headed in the fourth just before the hour mark. Palmer received a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.
