Covenant Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Plays an Ex-Soldier Returning to Afghanistan

The official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film The Covenant was released on MGM’s YouTube account on Thursday.

In the clip, Jake Gyllenhaal played a former soldier who returned to Afghanistan to rescue an interpreter who had previously saved his life during an ambush by Taliban forces.

The film, whose star was recently spotted on the set of Presumed Innocent, is scheduled to be released to the public later this year.

The Covenant trailer opens with a squad led by Sergeant John Kinley, played by Gyllenhaal, being attacked by members of the Taliban.

After the soldier is knocked nearly unconscious during the skirmish, the scene is revealed to be just Kinley’s recollection of the events, telling a friend that he only remembers the actions of the squad interpreter.

A taste of what’s to come: The official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film The Covenant dropped on MGM’s YouTube account on Thursday.

Gyllenhaal’s character is then shown asking Ahmed, played by Dar Salim, why he wants to work as an interpreter, to which he honestly replies, “I need the money.”

After Kinley tells Ahmed not to be “a pain in the ass”, one of his squadmates reveals that “money is not the reason”. [Ahmed] he wants this job. The Taliban killed his son.

The ambush is then repeated and Salim’s character is revealed to have killed the Taliban members and saved Kinley’s life by dragging him out of the combat zone.

A character played by Emily Beecham then talks to Kinley and implores him to go back to Afghanistan to bring Ahmed to the United States, telling him that “for three weeks, this family believed you were dead.” We owe our lives to that man.

After Ahmed is seen looking after Kinley after the attack, the ex-soldier expresses that “if it wasn’t enough for him to carry me through those mountains, now he’s hiding in a hole somewhere.” He should be in that hole.

The ex-soldier returns to a military base to speak with an active duty military officer and informs him that ‘all is not well. There’s a hook in me. Ahmed and his family are in trouble.

When Kinley is told that the military “cannot intervene” in the situation, he decides to bring the interpreter and his loved ones back to the United States.

While meeting with a consultant, Gyllenhaal’s character is told that he’s “going to be on his own.” You have to adapt. Use what you have.

After being warned that a possible removal of Ahmed and his family could be “too dangerous”, Kinley is informed that he “has become very popular with the Taliban” due to his activities.

Later, the ex-soldier has a video call with his daughters, after which he removes the pin from a grenade and places it under a large vehicle.

Kinley is shown again talking to the active duty military and says: ‘Do you think if I could be free of this debt, I wouldn’t be? Do you think I have a choice? No choice.

The trailer ends after a rapid-fire action montage, as Kinley is shown walking into the sunset.
