Courteney Cox shared a moving story about her late father Richard Lewis Cox on Tuesday while promoting Scream 6 on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
The 58-year-old actress was congratulated by Jimmy, 55, for getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday and also apologized for not attending the ceremony attended by his wife Molly, 44.
‘My wife comes home last night, ‘My God, you have to listen to what happened.’ Do you tell the story of the moment you decided to give up?’ Jimmy said.
‘Well, my dad thought I should give up, really. What happened was that he hadn’t worked in a long time. And he only had enough money to live for about two weeks. I mean, really eat, like that’s it,” Courteney said.
“So I was talking to my dad and he said, ‘CeCe,’ that’s my nickname, ‘You have to come home.’ It’s a long drop from Los Angeles to Birmingham [Alabama] and this is the time to pack it up. And you’re a salesman, you’re a damn good salesman. You have to do what you do best,’ he continued.

‘What did he want you to sell?’ Jimmy asked.
“Selling pools,” the Friends star replied.
‘Swimming pools?’ Jimmy asked incredulously.
‘That’s my dad’s business. By the way, I’m pretty good at it,” Courteney said.

Courteney said that her father loved Hollywood movies, TV shows, and action movies.
Jimmy then played a clip showing Courteney after she shared her father’s story at the Walk of Fame ceremony.

Jimmy barely won the silly game despite Courteney’s valiant effort.
Scream 6 will be released in theaters on March 10.
