Court to pass order on Nov 25 on closure report on case against Bhushan
A Delhi court will pronounce its verdict on November 25 on whether the Delhi Police closure report should be accepted in a sexual harassment complaint filed by a small-time wrestler against former WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The case was postponed as Justice Chhavi Kapoor, who was scheduled to issue the order on Friday, was on leave.
In an internal proceeding held on August 1, the minor wrestler had told the court that she was satisfied with the Delhi Police’s investigation in the case and was not opposed to the closure report filed by her, prosecutor said Atul Srivastava.
The Delhi Police had on June 15 filed a report in the court seeking cancellation of the case involving the minor wrestler after her father made a startling claim midway through the investigation that he had filed a false complaint of sexual harassment against Singh to get back at him for experiencing injustice towards the girl.
Police had recommended dropping the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) case against Singh but accused him of sexual harassment and stalking in a separate case filed against him by six female wrestlers.
Police had recommended dropping the complaint involving the little wrestler, saying “no corroborating evidence” had been found.
The POCSO Act provides for a minimum prison sentence of three years, depending on under which sections the offense is registered.
Despite the closure report, the court must decide whether to accept the report or conduct further investigations.
Singh has consistently denied the allegations.
