A couple’s lives changed forever while drinking their morning coffee when they realized their Lotto winnings were not just $8,333 as they initially thought, but a whopping $8.3 million jackpot.

The couple from Hamilton, New Zealand, dThey discovered they were sitting on a huge fortune after a Lotto NZ official sent them an email confirming they had won.

“I was having a coffee and reading some work emails when I came across an email from Lotto NZ saying I had won a prize,” the man said.

A Hamilton couple didn’t realize they were millionaires until the couple was notified by the Lott in New Zealand that they had won NZD8.3 million.

“I jumped on the MyLotto app to check my ticket but didn’t see the numbers lined up because I was too busy drinking my coffee,” the man said.

‘When I looked back at the ticket it said $NZ8.3 million at the top, which at first glance I thought was $NZ8333. To be honest, I was quite happy with it!

‘I called my partner to have a look, and she also thought it was NZ8333.

“We were shocked and thought it was too good to be true, but when we looked online and saw that someone in Hamilton had won $NZ8.3 million, we realized we had actually won.”

The shocking news has still not sunk in to the couple and they have yet to decide what to do with the money.

“We’re back to work and not rushing to buy anything crazy, although we may spend a little more this Christmas,” the man said.

“We plan to take time to think about what we really want to do. But we will definitely pay off our mortgage and help our family.

“This win has opened up so many opportunities for us and we want to make sure we make the most of them.

The $8.3 million prize consisted of $8 million from Powerball First Division and $333,333 from NZ Lotto First Division.
