Couple’s drastic wedding budget move is praised by thousands: ‘Now this is how you save money’

A newlywed couple is praised for their “genius” money-saving hack after driving over an hour for cheap wine.

The couple went to Aldi, 80 minutes away, and cleared the award-winning wine off the shelves, which set them back just $3.35 a bottle.

“Glad I brought enough bubble wrap to make sure they got home safe,” the bride said, sharing a photo of her boot filled with cheap alcohol.

The woman’s post, in an Aldi group, received more than 10,000 likes.

“Before I read the post, I thought you were in on an epic adult trunk of treat,” said one fan.

‘No shame about that game! It would have been an epic tailgate,” said another.

Some people wanted to know which Aldi had alcohol in stock.

“It depends on your state and the rules,” someone said helpfully.

The poster, who lives in the US, had to travel the distance to an Aldi, leading many people to believe she was crossing state lines.

This was a red flag for many.

If I were you I would delete the photo ASAP! If your local Aldi can’t legally sell it, you can’t import it into the state because no state tax has been paid. So basically a levy for smuggling and tax evasion if you get caught,” said one woman.

But this was rebuked by others.

“That would only apply if they bought it to resell at their wedding. Most people just offer an open bar, or put the bottles on tables for their guests,” says one woman.

“She never said she was going to leave the state. I have to travel an hour to my nearest Aldi.

Others said they also brought Aldi wine for their big day.

‘We also used Aldi wine and everyone loved it! Another fun thing to do is create your own custom labels. We just printed ours on scrapbook paper at home. Everyone got a kick out of us and didn’t even know it was like that.’

The Aldi wine was a big hit at our wedding last weekend! Despite the many naysayers here who say my guests would be extremely disappointed,” said another.

Some people wish it had been thought of.

“We spent way too much on wine at our wedding. I should have just had good food for toast and served cheap wine for the rest of the evening when people were too drunk to care.’

The wine carries the Winking Owl label in US stores. Australian wine enthusiasts can purchase the Precious Earth range from $3.45.
