Couple left shocked by ‘creepy’ discovery in their Victorian house after spotting a hole in the floor

A couple is shocked by an unexpected discovery in the Victorian house they are renovating.

When Emma Harrison and Rhys Stainer bought the old property in the Malvern Hills last year, they were amazed by a ‘creepy’ feature beneath a hole in the kitchen floor.

After drilling around the edges of the hole, they realized that there was a pit 20 feet deep in the center of the kitchen floor.

In a TikTok video which has already racked up more than 10 million views, Emma told her followers: ‘Last year my partner and I bought this old Victorian house and it had a strange little feature under the kitchen floor.

“It turned out that this little hole in the floor actually became this… They’re really cool, but they’re also really creepy.”

She then filmed the impressive well, which they believe dates back to at least the 1880s, after examining historical maps.

They now plan to place a glass top over the well, making it a striking feature in the room.

In another video, Emma, a designer, added: ‘Yes, there is a six-metre deep pit in the middle of our kitchen floor, and yes, that’s probably what everyone is most curious about.

‘Last year we bought this big, beautiful Victorian house that needs a lot of TLC. We are slowly bringing this place back to life and it is full of quirky surprises.’

And by answering people’s questions, she confirmed that there is no odor coming from the well, there is no mold and it is in good condition.

“100% chance your house is haunted.”

The unique building also has an old cellar, which they plan to convert into a speakeasy-style bar next year.

The couple, who live there with their two Rottweilers, are also renovating the building’s large farm extension.

Emma and Rhys aren’t the only couple to discover a well in their home.

First-time buyer Shaniah Lloyd, 28, and her partner Ross Bennett, 25, were lifting the floorboards of their Edwardian home when they unearthed the ring of stones with a deep divot for their bay window.

When Kevin Mort, 48, decided to install his own underfloor heating in his 18th century home, he was stunned to find a 300-year-old well full of water just inches below the dining table.
