Couple reveal they listed a $231 speeding ticket on their wedding registry so guests could pay it off for them
- Lovebirds Annabelle and James were fined 26 days before the wedding
- The Texas-based couple jokingly added the expense to their wedding registry
- They took to TikTok to share the clever idea before being praised for their humour
A couple have candidly revealed how they recorded a $231 speeding fine on their wedding register so guests could pay it off for them.
Lovebirds Annabelle and James, from Austin, Texas, were left devastated after they were fined for speeding 26 days before they were due to tie the knot.
However, they had a clever idea how they would pay the fine: by adding it to their gift list.
“Wedding in 26 days, the timing couldn’t be better,” bride-to-be Annabelle sarcastically wrote in the caption of a TikTok post.

In the video, Annabelle showed fiancé James sitting in front of a computer and holding an envelope containing the $231 fine for going over the speed limit.
“Feel free to support James through his bad times on The Knot at Annabelle and James’s Wedding Registry,” she wrote in the clip’s caption.
In the 15-second clip, Annabelle showed their registration list on the computer screen, highlighting a section for “cash” on their digital gift wish list and a photo of a police officer issuing the fine.
She then zoomed in on her fiancé updating their registry and wrote “PLEASE HELP” as he added the speeding ticket to the cash fund.
The video has been viewed more than 380,000 times, with many TikTok users sympathizing with the couple’s situation – and finding their idea to add the video to the registry hilarious.
“Now this is a wedding gift I can get behind,” one viewer declared.
“I got a speeding ticket the night before our wedding… I guess it happens to the best of us,” another added.
“My husband got a speeding ticket on the day of our rehearsal dinner, so very relatable,” another agreed.

Sharing tips on how to save money while planning a wedding is something that money-minded content creators often share online.
In June, a newlywed couple was commended for hosting a backyard wedding for less than $2,000, keeping her wedding party cheap by not splurging on an extravagant dress or renting an expensive venue.
The Florida bride wore a chic $148 dress she found online and hosted her wedding in her own home, using simple decorations.
Recently, another frugal bride in Colorado went viral after posting a TikTok video revealing she had achieved her bohemian dream wedding — and managed to cut the cost of a regular florist.
“We had 30 people at our wedding and I think I spent about $200 on flowers,” she told TiKTok. “Honestly, I probably could have spent about $150.”
