Couple attacked by their Bahamas AirBnB host in violent outburst: ‘He just snapped’

A couple shared the horrific story of how they were attacked with a double-edged knife by their Airbnb host.

Laura Valm and her boyfriend Ryan stayed in a rental home near Coral Harbour in Nassau, Bahamas last week.

The property, which costs an average of $168 a night, is described as “private and peaceful,” but for the couple that was not the case after the host attacked them.

Valm said on two TikTok pages that they booked the property after reading rave reviews, but found their host, whom they call Jan, strange.

According to Valm, her host tried to kill her and her boyfriend and wounded a man who worked for him with a large double-edged knife.

Images taken by the two show Jan being arrested by police officers after they managed to escape and call for help with the weapon lying next to him.

Valm said: ‘We arrive, the hosts are fine, they are friendly, they are nice. Mind you, they say a little bit quirky.

“He told us the CIA was watching him. They own a mushroom farm, so we think they might be using their own supply.”

She explains that on their first day on the estate, Jan regularly came to the beach where they were relaxing and disturbed the guests, which she described as ‘weird’.

Laura continued: ‘[He was] very strange, very peculiar – our alarm bells went off. But again, we didn’t feel threatened.’

When Jan stopped bothering the couple, they got the impression that his wife had told him not to come near them anymore.

Laura then explains: ‘If we walk back, we have to go through the back gate to our little house at the front.

“As we were walking through, he came out and said, ‘Hey guys, you want to come in?'”

Laura says that after she agreed, Jan showed her boyfriend something online about the current situation regarding Israel and Iran.

After Jan stopped harassing the couple, Laura says they got the impression his wife had told him not to come near them anymore.

Footage captured after the incident shows officers moving in to arrest the man.

According to Laura, her boyfriend had told him: ‘I don’t think so. There are so many countries in between, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.’

Laura continues: ‘He just went crazy, he just went crazy: he pushed my boyfriend, we think he hit him.

He dropped a wine glass, [he] loses his mind and screams and shouts ‘get out of my house’.

Laura says that as she tries to clean the wine glass so they can leave, one of the couple’s employees appears at the door to defuse the situation.

Nevertheless, Laura says that Jan then pulled out a double-edged sword and cut her boyfriend in the hand with it.

She continues: ‘Ryan pushes out the door, we run around the side of the house. We run, Jan goes out the front door so he cuts us off – I’ve booked it to the road.

The stay, which averages about $168 a night, is described as “private and peaceful,” but for the couple, that wasn’t the case at all

“My friend is standing next to us, and then we see the worker spraying blood all around.”

Laura says that after reaching the main road, they were able to apprehend two locals who called the local police, then took the worker to a nearby military base to draw attention.

In another clip, she explains that Airbnb has since removed the listing and that she has begged Vrbo to do the same, fearing another couple would be attacked.
