Her reps told People magazine at the time, “This was a tough decision. It wasn’t something she wanted to do. This was not a quarantine realization – it was a last resort.
In November 2020, Carly opened for People about why she thinks her marriage has failed.
The artist suggested it was a trust issue and that Michael couldn’t match her efforts: “I did everything I knew how to do. It takes two people to work on something. When you love someone, you trust them,” she said.
She said she “realized very quickly that we weren’t meant to be,” but doesn’t call it a mistake.
Despite her heartbreak, Carly said she still believes in love and hopes to marry her again one day.
‘I’m hopeful. I want someone. I desire marriage. I long for company. I long for a family. I long for all those things. I think it’s hard to have a divorce as part of your story. It’s a harsh reality,” she told People.
“It was hard for me to accept that and not be ashamed of it or feel like it defines me. But in reality I know I’m not. I’ve come to the point where I just accept that everyone has a journey, and this is mine — and the right person will be able to love me for it,” she said.
