Counter-Strike 2 has finally released on PC – players can dive in now

It finally happened – Counterattack 2 has been officially released on PC after a week of hints and teasers, which probably leaves fans completely unsurprised by the whole thing.

For those not in the know: the official Counterattack Twitter account started the ball rolling last week, on September 20 tweeted: “What are you doing next Wednesday?” From that point on, many fans believed this meant the sequel’s release date was all but confirmed.

If GameRadar+ points out, was further reinforced by the fact that yesterday (September 26) the account’s Twitter banner was changed to the popular The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask meme, which reads: “Dawn of The Final Day.” Needless to say, it would be wrong to say this is a sudden release that no one saw coming.

Counterattack 2 was announced back in March and since then many players have already had the chance to dive in thanks to the limited beta testing. It is the official replacement for Counter-Strike: Global Offensivemeaning the original game is now no longer available to play.

The sequel promises a slew of improvements to improve the Counterattack experience better than ever before. For example, smoke grenades are now much more dynamic and the smoke they produce can interact with the environment and respond to gunfire and lighting.

Counterattack 2 also implements sub-tick updates, allowing the game’s servers to know the exact moment players input their moves and attacks, rather than being tied to time intervals known as ticks. This change should ensure that player actions are consistently responsive at all times.

For those who have been waiting to dive in, the time is now. Counterattack 2 is now available for download via Steam.

It remains to be seen whether Counter-Strike 2 will ultimately be one of the best FPS games, but if it’s as impactful as its predecessor, chances are it will be. For more game recommendations, be sure to check out our list of the best pc games.
