Could this be why Jurgen Klopp quit? Liverpool unveil plans for the one thing the German DIDN’T want at Anfield… less than a week after outgoing boss announced shock departure

Jurgen Klopp’s final months as Liverpool manager will be captured in a TV documentary after the club confirmed filming had begun for a new series – six years after the German was instrumental in rejecting a fly approach on-the-wall film at Liverpool. Anfield.

There was speculation that Liverpool would be the subject of the latest football club documentary and Anfield announced on Wednesday that this was in the works.

And Klopp, who stunned the football world last Friday when he revealed he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, promised ‘a rare opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look’ into the inner workings of the Premier League giants.

“As this is my last season, I felt we should offer viewers a rare opportunity to gain a deeper insight into what makes this club so special: its people,” Klopp said.

‘From our fans to our players and those who work so hard behind the scenes, constantly seeking success for Liverpool Football Club. This new documentary series allows viewers to see what I see every day in this great club and better understand those great people.”

The documentary is produced, filmed and directed by Lorton Entertainment, who previously worked on the football documentaries ‘Diego Maradona’ and Steven Gerrad’s film ‘Make Us Dream’, as well as the Disney+ series ‘Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story’. .

It is thought that it will be released after the end of the season.

Liverpool were previously the focus of a documentary under former manager Brendan Rodgers in 2012, entitled ‘Being: Liverpool’. It received mixed reviews.

But the club is undoubtedly keen to capitalize on the new wave of interest in fly-on-the-wall documentaries, prompted by the high-profile success of Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ series, ‘Sunderland Till I Die’ and ‘Welcome to Wrexham ‘.

The documentary could also capture the Reds winning four trophies as they compete on European and domestic fronts.

In 2018, Klopp is said to have been mainly responsible for rejecting an approach from Amazon for a new All or Nothing football documentary following their Manchester City series.

Amazon Prime were keen to go behind the scenes at Anfield that season, especially as Liverpool showed they are the most likely team to mount a long-term challenge against City for the Premier League title.

It was said that many of Liverpool’s top players were willing to let the cameras in. But Klopp had the final say and was completely against the infringement.

Klopp believed there was nothing to be gained from fly-on-the-wall lighting and that people’s behavior changes when they are in front of the camera.

The German’s shock departure was announced to the world by the manager on Friday, but the 56-year-old said he had told Liverpool’s hierarchy months earlier in November after revealing he did not have the energy to continue.

In addition to his explanation of his decision to leave, filmed by the club, the documentary is likely to show the emotional support Klopp received from fans at Anfield during the club’s first match since the news broke.

Sunday’s FA Cup match against Norwich was accompanied by chants of Klopp’s name and singing of songs about the highly decorated manager, and fans waved banners and held up signs in honor of their outgoing head coach.

Klopp was keen to capitalize on the support he has received since the announcement. He wrote in his program notes ahead of Liverpool’s match with Chelsea on Wednesday evening that he wanted the fans to provide a ‘real Anfield atmosphere’ despite the opposition in west London.

It comes after Rafa Benitez cryptically suggested he had prior knowledge of what led to Klopp’s surprise departure.

“I have an advantage in that I have people at Liverpool, but also people at the club,” he said.

“So I kind of know how it happened. I know something else from within, and that has more value than me being there.

‘He (Klopp) is going to take the floor and give the club time to reorganize, which from another perspective is also very German, because they report it in advance.

“So it’s not a shock.”

Earlier this week, Mark Lawrenson had suggested Klopp’s next move would be a move abroad with his wife Ulla.

Former Red and ex-pundit Lawrenson revealed that the German is ‘having a house built in Mallorca’.

“I’ve got a house somewhere not far from where he’s building his, and I saw him the other day and I said to him after the game, ‘How’s the house going?’ Lawrenson told Off the Ball.

“And Ulla, his wife, is in charge of everything in that regard, and he just said, ‘The damn thing isn’t even finished yet, and I’m paying all the bills!’ So he’ll probably retreat there for a while, I would suggest.”
