Costco customers seethe with jealousy over new item only available in Canada – and it could rival the iconic hot dog deal

Costco fans have a new hero item in the retailer’s food courts that rivals the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo.

That fan favorite has been sold at the same price since the early 1980s, and new finance boss Gary Millerchip promised last week that no price increase was planned.

A combination of chicken strips and fries is now offered, but there’s a catch for American shoppers.

It’s only available in Canada, where it costs $6.99 – that’s Canadian dollars, which is about $5 in the US.

After a Reddit user posted an updated Candian food court menu, they were flooded with replies. β€œChicken and fries would be such a hit in the States,” one person wrote.

A Canadian asked: ‘Don’t you have chicken strips there? Truly the best on the menu.’

Canadian Costco fans love the comics so much that they’ve been trying to find out who produces them.

The combo isn’t the only Costco food item only in Canada.

They also keep traditional Canadian poutine β€” fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy β€” for themselves.

American customers point out that they can’t buy fries at Costco at Costco – strange considering America’s love for them.

On the Reddit thread, a Canadian wrote, “Wait…don’t you even have fries in the US???”

Fans said that while the hot dog deal is the best value, the chicken strips could challenge this.

They also pointed out that the hot dog and soda combo also costs $1.50 in Canada, about $1.09 in the US.

β€œ$1.50CAD is basically free!” one user joked.

Costco hasn’t increased membership prices since 2017

Last week, new financial boss Gary Millerchip promised that no price increase was planned.

But there is no news about membership fees, which is a main source of income.

Costco makes about $4 billion-plus per year from the fees, which are $60 or $120 per year. This price has been this way since 2017.

The company has not increased annual membership fees in almost seven years.

It charges $60 for Business and Gold Star and $120 for Executive, which offers a 2 percent discount on all Costco purchases made that year, up to a total of $750.
