Holidays, dinners and treats are in full force in December, but a doctor is reminding people they don't have to wait until New Year's Day to start losing weight.
Dr. Reza Tirgari, 54, from San Diego, California, has revealed his easy-to-follow plan to shed pounds before Christmas, which doesn't require any special diet or fitness routine.
The cosmetic surgeon and fitness instructor has more than 523,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares health and wellness advice.
Dr. Tirgari, who uses the handle @drreza_explains in a recent video that all you need to lose weight this month is “discipline and consistency.”

The cosmetic surgeon advises cutting back on sugar and carbohydrates, which means avoiding Christmas cookies and cocktails
'Do you want to lose weight during the holidays?' he asks. “I'm going to give you four easy tips.”
The surgeon's first piece of advice is to cut back on sugar, which means skipping cookies and holiday cocktails.
“Sugar is highly pro-inflammatory and your body has a hard time metabolizing too much of it,” he explains.
Dr. Tirgari also recommends reducing your intake of carbohydrates, which are known to increase weight.
Sugar and carbs may seem like holiday staples, but that doesn't mean you should starve yourself during your celebrations.
The medical expert says it's just as important to increase your protein intake if you're trying to lose weight.
“Protein will actually be very helpful in controlling your weight,” he explains.

The National Academy of Medicine recommends that adults consume at least 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, or 0.35 grams per pound of body weight per day for general health.
However, some experts recommend snacking between meals 0.75 and 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight for weight loss.
The last tip from Dr. Tirgari is to start lifting weights this festive season.
“Get those weights out, guys, even if you're walking up and down the stairs and putting a pair of dumbbells in your hands,” he says.
'You'll be surprised how much energy you'll have and how much weight you'll lose just by building muscle.
“Weightlifting is great for that.”
As for those who aren't willing to make sacrifices around the holidays, they shouldn't worry too much about gaining weight.
A study published by the New England Journal of Medicine showed that the average weight gain over the holidays for adults was 0.37 kilograms, which is just under a pound.
