Corruption watchdog raids Parliament House in Canberra as part of major ongoing investigation

The federal corruption watchdog raided Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday but said it was not targeting any current or former politician.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission said this Sydney Morning Herald that officers were conducting an ‘operational activity’ as part of an ongoing investigation.

However, the NACC declined to provide specific details about what they were investigating.

“The committee can confirm that it carried out operational activities at Parliament House today,” the report said.

‘This was in connection with an ongoing investigation.

‘The committee can confirm that the investigation does not involve any current or former parliamentarian.

“As the matter is ongoing, we will not comment further as it could jeopardize operations or unfairly impact reputation.”

The committee has the power to investigate parliamentarians, their staff, civil servants and government contractors.

It can also inspect, seize or copy documents that it considers relevant to its investigation.

It is estimated that around 5,000 people work in Parliament House during peak periods.

The corruption watchdog denied it targeted a current or former federal MP

The NACC, which started on July 1 last year, has 32 preliminary investigations and 29 corruption investigations underway, with six cases before the courts.

The previous police watchdog organisation, the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity, was absorbed.
