In an interview, Ryan actor Ryan Prescott talked about how his character will deal with the world with his injuries.
He said, “Once Ryan realizes he’s always going to stand out from the crowd and look different, certain things start to get him into that spiral of negative thinking.”
“One of the things he puts so much effort into while he’s in the hospital is trying to change these thoughts and not let his injuries define who he is. But when he hears a group of nurses laughing together, it’s a trigger and he automatically thinks they’re laughing at him.
“There’s also a moment when a little girl looks at Ryan. She’s so innocent and Ryan sees her reaction to him in her eyes; fear. Ryan knows that because she’s a young kid, her reaction to him is organic and natural and will probably be everyone else’s reaction no matter how they cover it. The little girl’s reaction is so raw it triggers Ryan.”

“He has a comedic streak, but this event will deepen him and perfect his character. Ryan doesn’t look the same as he used to and he won’t for a very long time, so these are the things that will affect him along the way.
“He’s going to change, his whole world is going to change, and the way he acts is going to change. He’s going through real trauma, real desperation and real heartbreak.”
